30 Days To Change
When we are facing situations that are not to our liking we feel a huge desire to change it. However, usually the situation contains so many elements of things we don’t want that we are consumed by fear and worry.
Fear is powerful and can consume our thoughts, which in turn directs our actions and reactions. Unfortunately, since fear consumes our thoughts, most of our actions and reactions are find a quick fix, and we react instead of respond.
- When feeling fear, do you jump to react without thinking?
- Do you lose sight of your goal, and focus on the ‘horrible’ outcome?
- Are the steps you are taking to fix the situation taking you toward your goal, or are they ‘quick fix’ steps in a desperate attempt to stop the ‘horrible outcome’?
How do you move toward your goal despite what is happening around you?
First, decide where you want to be, or have accompished, in 30 days. Get clear on what you want in 30 days.
Then, only do actions and steps that will move toward that goal. Stop focusing on the opposite of what you want - stay focused. Before you take a step, ask yourself ‘is this going toward my goal or away from it?”.
With each step or action you take, be sure to be moving only toward the goal you want.
Imagine you are in a car and instead of driving towards where you want to go you keep veering off to the left and then to the right. You drive straight for a while, then turn left and drive in that direction instead.
Will you get where you want to go? Only if you can correct your course and start driving in the direction you want to go.
Previously, if we got lost when driving we were hopelessly lost until we found someone to give us directions. Nowadays, we have GPS’s installed in our cars to help us course correct quickly.
When we are facing situations that have us fearful it is easy to go off course and veer to the left. It’s okay if that happens. Its what you do next that matters. By being clear on your goal, and staying focused on it, we can use our minds like a GPS and course correct quickly to get back on track.
When you veer off course, the faster you can regroup, realign with your goal, and correct your path to get back on course, the faster you will reach your destination.
